There were no chaperones watching to make sure the punch wasn't spiked.
But for couples such as Elwaine and Joann Pomeroy, whose first date was at the all-school dance at Topeka High School, it felt much the same.
"It brings back some memories," Joann Pomeroy said. "I hope they will do this again."
More than 500 seniors packed the Regency Ballroom of the Ramada Inn Downtown, 420 S.E. 6th, for the Senior Prom, sponsored by The Topeka Capital-Journal on March 10.
Couples danced to the 14-member band The Kings of Swing amid hushed lighting, balloons and roses. During the evening, a variety of door prizes were given, couples married more than 50 years were honored, and a king and queen were chosen.
